Best Apps for Your Job Search

These days, people have less time to spare and like to use their smartphones, tablets and other devices on the move to do the things that they otherwise would not have time to do. One of these is search for and apply for jobs.

With that in mind, we have reviewed 5 of the most widely used job search apps.

1. BeKnown

BeKnown is the professional networking app from Jobs Board giant Monster and is available on iPhone, Android, iPad and BlackBerry. It gives the user the ability to connect with other and update your status (much like LinkedIn). The drawback for this app is that it only allows you to search for jobs that are posted on Monster.


This is a free app for the Irish jobs board On it, you can shortlist your favourite jobs, view job locations on a map and receive job alerts for your desired criteria. The app is particularly useful because it is Irish however it is currently only available on the iPhone.

3. Fás Jobseeker App

This is an android app for Ireland’s National Employment agency Fás. It is a simple job search app which will allow you to search by keyword and county/location. You can then share the job by email, Facebook or Twitter. It works with Android phones and tablets.

4. LinkedIn

While technically more of a social networking app than a job search app, because LinkedIn is the world’s biggest online network of professionals, it should be noted that job searching is also a feature of it’s app. So not only can you make connections, browse profiles and update your status you can also search for jobs that are posted on LinkedIn’s jobs pages and save your searches.

5. Real Time Jobs

The Real Time Jobs app is connected to searching for and applying for jobs on social media giant Twitter. The app allows you to view a job posted on Twitter and to apply for it you can attach an online CV, a social media profile (e.g. your LinkedIn profile) and even a video CV. This app is currently only available on iPhone.

It is important to note that while these apps are useful for job searching and applying when you are on the move or short of time, they should not be used as a complete replacement for traditional job search methods such as online jobs boards, newspapers and networking with industry. There is no doubt that as technology advances and more and more job search apps become available, they will become more and more influential in the way the 21st century jobseeker looks for work.
